August 18, 19, 20 Friday – Sunday
9am – 5pm daily
Knowing yoga anatomy and possessing the right skillsets to apply it can facilitate a safer and more enriching practice. This will empower you with greater confidence on your yoga journey as a student or teacher of yoga. In this advanced training, we will examine the function and form of asana as they relate to vinyasa, yin, and resorative/therapeuticpractices.
This program will offer a welcoming and encouraging environment with the following areas of focus:
- Fundamentals of Asanas (postures)
- The importance of movement as medicine
- Skeletal and Muscular System
- Joint movement and mobility in achieving postural alignment
- Developing a deeper practice that addresses imbalances in body types and individual strengths
- Preventing and minimizing injuries through yoga therapy
Open to all levels.
Session 1 FRIDAY: 9-12pm
- The importance of anatomy in yoga
- The complementary role of structure and function
- Anatomical movements of the body
- The major joints, muscles, and bones of the body in relation to yoga
- The anatomical planes and the importance of them in relation to asana
Session 2 FRIDAY : 1-5pm
- The structure, composition and function of Asanas
- Muscles in action: strengthening vs. stretching
- Active and Passive Range of Motion
- Realistic Asana goals in a yoga practice
- Practicing effective techniques to release muscular tension and build strength
Session 3 SATURDAY : 9-12pm
- Neurobiology and its importance in relation to movement
- The concept of neuroplasticity
- The importance of neuotransmitters and stress release
Session 4 SATURDAY : 1-5pm
- Back bends: understanding their importance
- Physiology and pathology of Backbending asanas
- Safety considerations, variations, and sequencing modalities
Session 5 SUNDAY: 9-12pm
- Classical inversion poses in relation to the circulatory system
- Preparatory movements for inversion
- Physiology and pathology of inversion asanas
- Safety considerations, variations, and sequencing modalities
Session 6 SUNDAY: 1-5pm
- Pranayama and the respiratory system
- Significance of yogic breathing
- Yoga therapy sequencing
